State Unclaimed Property

What Are These Funds?
When a financial institution, insurance company, business, or other organization is unable to successfully contact the rightful owner for a period of time, state law may require the organization to report and transfer the unclaimed property to the appropriate state agency for safekeeping. The funds generally remain available for the rightful owner or eligible heirs to claim.
Why Do These Funds Exist?
After a period of inactivity defined by law, holders of financial assets are generally required to report and remit them to the state, which holds them for the rightful owner.
Who May Potentially Be Eligible?
- Original account owners
- Businesses and organizations
- Heirs and beneficiaries
- Authorized representatives
Why Can Recovery Become Complicated?
Older records, name changes, business dissolutions, and estate matters can make it difficult to establish a connection to reported property.
How Surplus Flow Capital Helps
We research available records, evaluate potential connections, identify the documentation the custodian requires, and help organize a complete, well-supported claim. Where a matter requires independent legal counsel, we explain this clearly.
Documents That May Be Required
- Government-issued identification
- Proof of address history
- Account or policy records, if available
- Estate or corporate documents, if applicable
Identification of potential funds does not guarantee entitlement or that a claim will be approved.
Confidential Review
There May Be More to the Record.
If you believe funds may be connected to you, your family, a former property, an estate, a bankruptcy matter, or another financial matter, the first step is understanding what the records actually show.
